I’m Rafael Martins, 27 years old, born and raised in a very small town in the countryside of São Paulo called Vargem Grande do Sul (which is neither that big nor in the south, by the way).
I later moved to Campinas, where I started my career as an Art Director at an advertising agency, spending six years shaping ideas and learning the craft. Today, I work as a freelancer across Art Direction, Motion Design and Video Editing.

Growing up, I was always told to follow a more traditional path: public service, stability, the “safe choice”.
Naturally, I went the other way and chose advertising. Probably the right kind of mistake.

Cinema has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching films with my family, especially with my father, who was a reference in many ways, both the good and the complicated ones. In early 2023, I lost my father to cancer. He was my hero, as cliché as that might sound.

In my early twenties, I became a father. Still the most transformative moment of my life, the one that made me more responsible, and yes, a bit more bald too. Later, my wife and I found out that my son is autistic, which brought answers to many questions, and lessons we’ll carry forever, especially about patience and perspective.

Nowadays, I sometimes feel older than I should, at the same time, just getting started on things I still want to build.

I’m someone who enjoys creating and bringing ideas to life. I don’t like things sitting still or unfinished, which naturally pushes me to stay proactive, organized and responsible. I like conversations, I like to understand people, and I tend to find the lighter, sometimes funny side of things.
Throughout my life, people have often pointed out a natural tendency I have for leading and teaching, something I’ve come to embrace over time. I’ve learned a lot so far, and I know there’s much more ahead. After all, what’s the point of life if not to learn and pass things forward?

Here, you’ll find a bit of my work and a bit of who I am. If you made it this far, maybe we should talk.
